Electronic Arts have been a little coy about what next generation systems Battlefield 4 is coming to, but now it has now been confirmed that it will be on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. After seeing the original trailer showing off Battlefield 4 everyone was pretty sure it was coming to both systems and now we know for sure. The game will use the Frostbite 3 engine and for those hoping it will come to Wii U are unfortunately out of luck.

Much like Battlefield 3 with the Back To Karkand pack which people received for pre-ordering the premium edition of the game, Battlefield 4 will feature China Rising pack free with a pre-order of any version of the game. This will include four new maps, new vehicles and equipment so it is a nice pre-order incentive.

There will be a Digital Deluxe version of the game exclusively on Origin, which will include China Uprising, bonus digital items (whatever they might be) and access to the multiplayer beta for people who can’t wait or have money to burn.

EA will have a multiplayer demo of the game at their E3 press conference on Monday 10th June at 1pm PST.

Poker Night 2 is the sequel to the unexpected Poker game that featured a mishmash of characters from different games. Poker Night 2 contains characters from not only games but also TV and movies.

Gameplay:

The four characters that feature in this game are: Claptrap from Borderlands, Sam from the Sam & Max games, Ash Williams from the Evil Dead movies and Brock Samson from The Venture Bros. All characters are just like they are from their respective universes. The poker games are held in the Inventory, a secret club where characters get to play high stakes poker. You take the role as The Player who is the fifth player in the poker game. Captain Reginald Van Winslow from Monkey Island runs the casino nights and who introduces you to the Poker game. The dealer is the lovely GLaDOS from the Portal games, who of course insults you.

There are two types of Poker in the game, classic Texas Hold ‘Em and Omaha Hold ‘Em which is similar but you instead get have four cards. Also you must use two cards from your hand and three from the table. The game plays just like any other poker game, one thing could be said that because this game is only played Single Player it is harder to tell whether your opponents are bluffing. The characters each have their own tells for when they are, but are a little bit too obvious at times.

The real draw of the game is having these characters who would never meet outside of this game, come together and chatting to one and other. They are quite amusing but can get quite repetitive after a few playthroughs of the game. If you are a fan of any of these characters then you will get a kick out of all the references they make to their respective universes. It is quite challenging to beat out all of the other players but when you do you will get coins to unlock different tables, betting chips or new decks. There is a set for each character in the game, when you unlock a set the inventory will completely transform to the style of the game. This is what keeps me coming back to the game and hoping to win the tournament to unlock more content.

Graphics:

The game runs much better than the original which was a pleasant surprise. Each character in the game keeps to their style from their respective franchises except for Ash from Evil Dead who is in the style of a Telltale version of Evil Dead if that makes any sense.

Sound/Audio:

Almost every one of the characters is voiced by the actors you would expect. Ash is unfortunately not voiced by Bruce Campbell which is a shame, but the actor who does play him does a pretty good job of playing Ash. Each of the individual themes for the Inventory has music taken from that franchise. If you have played or watched any of the franchises that these characters are from then you will get quite a few of the references they make and some that are really obscure.

Final Thoughts:

Poker Night 2 is a strange poker game but is really fun. You will unlock Borderlands 2 costumes based on the characters in Poker Night 2. Also you will unlock certain content depending on what game that is, for PC you will get Team Fortress 2 costumes, Xbox 360 gets avatar items and PS3 gets themes. If you like playing poker and love these characters then this is perfect for you.

Score:

Overview
Publisher: Telltale Games, Developer: Telltale Games
Release Date: 04/26/13
Platforms: PC, PS3 & Xbox 360 Digital: Yes

EA announced today a new game coming to the Need For Speed series, Need For Speed: Rivals, this new entry will be handled by EA’s fledgling studio Ghost Games,

Need For Speed: Rivals will have features similar to last years Need For Speed: Most Wanted from Criterion Games, such as an open world with challenges and collectibles to uncover. The game’s multiplayer component will also be powered by Autolog, letting players compete on live leaderboards and issue challenges to one another. Also worth mentioning though Criterion Games, are not the development team behind Rivals they will help collaborate on developing it.

Need For Speed: Rivals will have a stronger focus on the series’ staple Cops vs. Racers modes. With Rivals giving players the ability to choose a side and move their respective ranks, unlocking new cars, customization options and pursuit or escape technology to use against their opponents.

Rivals will also use EA’s Frostbite 3 engine, with seamless drop-in, drop-out racing with online friends using a feature called AllDrive, letting friends appear in your open world to race, chase or evade either alongside or against you. Players will unlock new aesthetic and performance boosts as they earn “Speedpoints” by running down racers or eluding the fuzz, depending on which of the two roles they decide to fill.

EA has released this teaser trailer for Need For Speed Rivals

Need For Speed Rivals will launch on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on November 19th with PS4 and Xbox One versions to come some-when this year.

Few weeks ago, one of Sony executives teased a new original big game coming to the Vita, then last week they teased us with a trailer with no system confirmation, the name “Panopticon” which the game was going by and it was being made by Japan Studio development team with a further announcement to come yesterday.

Well now they confirmed it to be a Vita title has been renamed and now is called Freedom Wars. They have also updated the trailer to include the PS Vita logo, and to include some extra footage that shows and explains the difference between our time and the games setting.

Besides the system confirmation and new trailer not much new information besides what we can assume from the updated trailer. The new game might be some kinda of Final Fantasy type RPG which seems to merge cybernetics, dragon mechs, and a dystopian future with great and monstrous danger, where try to control everything we do, how many people can live at once, ratio of men to woman must be equal, and such.

Also it is very interesting that all the people in the games time seem to have some kind of countdown timers that appears above their head. Which by the way the game seems to play out would assume is they’re measuring that persons life expectancy from birth, and are updated based on a person’s behavior and activities.

You can check out the updated trailer here:

Today, Microsoft revealed the Xbox One at its next-generation Xbox event. Now, let’s get down and see what we know so far about their upcoming next-generation offering.

Microsoft is aiming the Xbox One to be the all-in-one go-to system for your living room. They want the Xbox One to be your gaming, TV, music, movie, and social center and to have everything connected. Microsoft has partnered with several companies including ESPN and Comcast to bring live TV and sports to their next generation console.

Xbox One Console

Lots of this new functionality will be brought to the Xbox One through the use of the new and improved Kinect Sensor bar. The new Kinect Sensor will come pre-packaged with every new console and it features updated hardware specs. The new sensor has a 1080p camera and an increased ability to track your movements.

The Xbox One’s controller has changed slightly. It features an improved D-pad as well as an integrated battery similar to the PlayStation 3′s Dualshock controllers. The controller will also feature tactic response in the triggers.

The console itself features 8GB of RAM, Blu-Ray, USB 3.0, WiFi Direct, a 500GB HDD, and it will be “silent.” I enjoyed how they had to emphasize its silent operation in a press conference.

All of this culminates in what Microsoft believes is the ultimate connected box in your future living room. The Xbox has the ability to play live TV and sports, and has a feature called “Snap” which allows you to view other things while doing so. Snap allows you to watch basketball and view your fantasy basketball team while doing so. This is all made possible by the Xbox One hardware and the new Kinect sensor’s voice command technology.

Xbox One Kinect Sensor

Xbox One also has the ability to fast switch between games, movies, TV, and other entertainment with simple voice commands to your Kinect. Probably my favorite reveal of the new Xbox One is that Xbox will now be integrated with Skype and will feature the ability to voice and video chat over Skype with your friends while playing games or watching TV or movies. Utilizing the Snap feature, you can see the Skype video, while playing a game and it looks great doing it.

The new Xbox One interface looks very similar to Windows 8. In fact, Xbox One features three operating systems. The Windows kernel, the best parts of the Xbox OS, and one to integrate the two. This technology is what allows the Xbox to switch quickly between apps and games. Also built-in to the new Xbox OS is Xbox SmartGlass to allow for even more connectivity between the Xbox and your devices.

While Microsoft spent a large portion talking about their services, there was some mention of games as well for this game console. Microsoft will be releasing Forza 5 for the Xbox One and it will be a launch game. Remedy, makers of Alan Wake, will also have a new title named Quantum Break. Electronic Arts and Microsoft will also enter into a partnership for the new Xbox and that several of their top sports titles will be coming in the next 12 months.

In total, the Xbox One will be getting 15 exclusive games, 8 of the games being brand new IPs. I don’t entirely see how that is hard as I believe the Xbox is lacking in a plethora of exclusive IPs but I look forward to seeing what they are. I do hope they are not mostly family and casual titles for Kinect.

Also, the Call of Duty/Xbox DLC partnership will continue in to the next generation and all Call of Duty DLC will launch first on the Xbox One.

Towards the end of the conference, it was revealed that Stephen Spielberg, Microsoft, and 343 Industries will be creating a Halo “TV” series that will be released exclusively on the Xbox One console.

Xbox One Controller

Some other miscellaneous but important info includes the Xbox One will not be backwards compatible with Xbox Live purchases or Xbox 360 games. The Xbox One will also not require an always-on connection, but will require an internet connection. The console will allow developers to utilize Azure, which would require an internet connection for those games, even if they are single-player only.

So far I can say that I am a little underwhelmed with the console reveal. The machine looks pretty, the services sound pretty interesting, but what I really watch these things for is the games and what the console will make them look like and p;ay like and I feel that Microsoft just does not do a good job with that in their conferences.

I look forward to E3 where we will get to see Sony and Microsoft really battle head-to-head with the next-generation games and I think that a lot of our game questions and anticipations will have to wait till then. Look for future posts detailing the Xbox One’s features as we get more info and as more general information becomes available.

Until then, take heart, the Xbox One is expected to arrive in stores in 2013.
