After plenty of rumors and speculation, the results are in! BioWare took to its blog yesterday to announce that they saw it fitting to leave the Mass Effect 3 universe not with one piece DLC, but two. Yes, Two!
Multiplayer DLC: Reckoning.
While previous speculation was that the newest Multiplayer would include online Co-Op missions, this doesn’t seem to be the case. However, we do get our share of new playable MP characters and weapons. Characters include the Geth Juggernaut, Female Turian Raptor, Talon Mercenary, Alliance Infiltration Unit, and Krogan Warlord. There will also be a total of 7 new weapons added to your arsenal, like the Geth Spitfire Assault Rifle, Venom Shotgun, and Lancer Assault Rifle. New equipment and mods will also be available to help tear the Reapers a new one.
Mass Effect 3: Reckoning launches for free next Tuesday February 26 on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 (February 27th on PS3 in Europe). For a sneak peek at the content, BioWare devs will be steaming via Twitch to demo the new Multiplayer content and answer viewer questions on Monday February 25th at 12:30pm EST/9:30am PST
Single Player DLC: Citadel
The story revolves around a conspiracy which targets Commander Shepard. Shepard and company must fight to uncover the truth, taking you into previously inaccessible areas of the citadel, including the Citadel Wards, and the top-secret Council Archives. One of the coolest features is that it gives you a chance to fight along side your team again, including squadmates from Mass Effect 1 & 2!
Once the mission is over, we’re treated to what sounds like a new permanent hub on the Citadel. With the new areas, you can try your luck at the Silver Coast Casino, blow off some steam at the Armax Combat Arena, or just chill out in Shepard’s own living quarters on the Citadel. This new DLC will also be offering unique content and cinematics, giving the fans a few more memorable moments with dear friends and rekindle romances.
Mass Effect 3: Citadel will launch March 5th on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 (March 6th on PS3 in Europe) to the tune of $14.99, 1200MS points, or 1200BW points. As an additional note, Chris Priestly went on to add:
“For Xbox 360 users, the Citadel DLC pack will come as 2 downloads on Xbox Live. ME3 Citadel is larger than our previous DLC packs, so it had to be split into 2 downloads. The first pack is priced at $14.99 and the second pack is tagged as free. Players need to purchase and download pack 1, then download pack 2 at no additional cost. You can download pack 2 without purchasing pack one, but the DLC will not work. You will get an error message in game asking you to download pack 1. It will say “This DLC will only work in conjunction with Part 1 of Mass Effect™ 3: Citadel, which is split across 2 downloadable packages. Please purchase Part 1 prior to downloading Part 2 at no additional cost. This will not hurt your saved game but you will not be able to launch Citadel until you have both packs. This only affects Xbox 360 users. Citadel for the PC and PS3 is in one pack.”
